Presedential Candidates for 2008
By Thea | September 26, 2007
If you are a voter you are probably thinking at least once a week about who you are going to vote for in 2008. It’s anybody’s race at this point in time. Obama, Romney, Giuliani, Clinton (God forbid), Thompson, Huckabee, etc… Well, let’s narrow it down a little. I’m a republican and there are only two names on the above list that I would like to see win the Presidency at this point in time. (Keep in mind, I reserve the right to change my mind at any point in time between now and the elections!!) Those two are Huckabee and Romney.
I am a die-hard Values Voter. I want somebody in the Presidency who cares about life, family, and morals. These used to be basic obviously kind of things, but not anymore. So, in order to keep these things sacred in this country we need a President who will veto stupid bills that erode these basic facets of life set up by God. The only two 2008 Presidential Candidates that I can see doing that is Huckabee and Romney which I mentioned above.
Huckabee is a born again Christian and my first choice. He has the same values, morals, and agendas that I have, so therefore he is definently number one in my book at this point in time.
Romney runs a close second. Granted, Romney is not a born again Christian, he is Mormon. Now, I don’t endorse the Mormons at all as a religion and there are many things I do not agree with at all. But when it comes to politics, even though we differ in doctrine, we have a lot of the same morals. Romney is for the basic things I mentioned above that are important Value Voters issues. He’s not wishy-washy changing with whatever wind of public opinion blows next. He stands up strong for what he believes in. When Massachusetts Governer, there was a law the MA senate was trying to pass to legalize embryonic stem cell research in the state. Romney told them he would veto the bill because he could not stand by stem cell research morally. They pretty much laughed at him because it would be ridiculously easy to overturn his veto when it went back to the Senate. Everybody knew that if he vetoed the bill it would not matter because the Senate would pass it anyways. Public opinion believed he should just sign the bill, because his veto didn’t matter. But, Romney vetoed it. He could not have his signature next to that kind of bill. I was, to say the least, impressed. How many political leaders can you think of that will do that?
Anyways, I really want to know who everybody out there is pulling for to win the 2008 election and why. Please, no bashing, just debate.
